Alexander Bening (1444–1519), also known as Sanders Bening, was a miniaturist from the early 16th century who belonged to the Ghent–Bruges school and the Dutch tradition. Bening came from a family of teachers from the southern Netherlands. Sanders and his family lived in Ghent, but in 1486 he also joined the Bruges Guild of St. John and St. Luke, whose membership included all those concerned with book production. Some scholars identify the Master of the First Prayer Book of Maximilian with Alexander Bening.
